Food & Drink

Eating In

The advantage of self-catering is that you can bring your own food and drink, and do not have to pay restaurant, hotel or bar prices. You can choose between the panelled dining room for dinners and special meals, or the kitchen for breakfasts, lunches and informal meals. For your convenience, Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda all deliver online shopping to Morland. We can advise on appropriate instructions to give the driver.

However you may prefer to have some or all of your meals cooked for you, and we can recommend private cooks who can prepare and serve meals from the caterer’s kitchen without needing to use the family kitchen. If a house party has hired their own cook for the weekend and needs somewhere for them to stay, we may also be able to help with that.

Eating Out

For those times when cooking doesn't appeal, there are several excellent options within striking distance of the house. The Mill Yard Café is just outside the front gate in Morland village square, and serves excellent breakfasts, coffees, lunches and teas every day except Tuesday, and homemade pizzas on Friday nights. It has a private dining room which can be hired and seats up to 24. The owners Rob and Sarah Kite will be able to advise on menus, prices and other details.

Across the road is the Crown Inn which serves Cumbrian real ales and may serve evening meals on some nights. It has a pool table and darts.

The Strickland Arms in Great Strickland, 3 miles up the road, serves meals every night of the week.

Other possibilities are the award winning gastropub The George and Dragon at Clifton (5 miles), and for special occasions the Sharrow Bay at Ullswater or the new Askham Hall at Askham (6 miles).
